The Modern Sorcerer's MahJong has been played 308 times this month.
Did you know that the MahJong game you play online is not really MahJong?
MahJong is an ancient game of Chinese origin. It is spelled a few different ways in the west, mainly MahJong, Mah Jong, and Mah Jongg. However the MahJong game played online, such as The Modern Sorcerer's Mah-Jong, is a completely different game than the ancient original!
The online game is known as "MahJong Solitaire" and is, in fact, a recent invention. It was created in 1981 by Brodie Lockard for the PLATO computer. The game was called Mah-Jongg and the original layout was titled "The Turtle". A few years later another version came out known as 'Shanghai' or 'Shanghai Solitaire'. It was this version that made the game a world-wide success and since then there has been no end to variations of this much loved game.
By the way, while MahJong is a commonly a four player game, MahJong Soliatire (or Shanghai Solitaire) is a one player game (hence the 'Solitaire' suffix).
Modern Sorcerer's MahJong is a mystical game based on the traditional Chinese tile game Mah-Jong (MahJongg) Solitaire.
The object of the game is to clear the table by selecting matching tile pairs. In order for a tile to be removable it must have at least two consecutive sides free.
The faster you remove the tiles the better your score!
The tiles in "Modern Sorcerer's MahJong" feature a wide variety of symbols, most notably alchemical symbols, but also an eclectic selection of symbols from a number of worldwide traditions.
